Responsible to find good homes for dog, cats and other animals at off-site adoption events while creating a positive experience for potential adopters and community members through excellent customer service
 EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Actively engages with the general public as a positive representation of the Shelter
  • Gains knowledge of animals and interacts with potential adopters to make the best possible match
  • Expands knowledge of animal behavior issues and remedies, improving probability of successful adoptions
  • Provides high-quality customer service, adoption assistance, and information about animal care and behavior
  • Reviews adoption applications and performs conversational interviews of potential adopters
  • Determines and communicates adoption approval or rejection status in professional manner
  • Maintains daily activities log and submits weekly to supervisor 
  • Transports animals, cages and other equipment to and from off-site events
  • Performs set-up and provides care and cleaning of animals, transportation equipment, and adoption areas
  • Monitors the health of animals on an ongoing basis; rapidly identifies medical or behavioral conditions and immediately reports to the Kennel Manager, Animal Health Technician and/or Behaviorist
  • Exhibits a humane, caring attitude toward all animals, and advocates for their welfare
  • Comforts and works with animals of unknown disposition who may exhibit medical and behavioral issues, including aggressive tendencies
  • Identifies unique demeanor, behaviors and special needs of individual animals
  • Works effectively with co-workers, volunteers and adoption site staff, with minimal supervision and direction 
  • Interacts professionally with individuals and manages stressful situations effectively
  • Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures
  • Performs related special duties as assigned
  • The physical demands and environmental factors listed below as well as regular attendance are also essential functions for this position

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:    
  • Physical ability to walk and/or stand throughout shift
  • Ability to hear and/or see alert cues regarding animal security
  • Able to lift and move animals and equipment weighing in excess of 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle without equipment modifications specific to any individual operator.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: 
  • Frequent handling of animals, including contact with waste and blood
  • Exposure to unpleasant smells and a noisy and wet environment associated with an animal shelter
  • Frequent exposure animals that are agitated or injured that may attempt to bite or scratch
  • May work outside in inclement weather. Ambient temperature of an adoption area should not exceed 90 degrees or fall below 40 degrees
  • Williamson County has a Tobacco-Free Workplace Policy that prohibits smoking or the use of any tobacco product on Williamson County property to include the off-site work area and vehicles
TOBACCO FREE WORKPLACE POLICY:

Williamson County is a tobacco free workplace. The use of tobacco and non-tobacco products such as vapor, e-cigarettes and the use of chewing tobacco or like products is prohibited on all Williamson County premises. Employees who violate this policy are subject to appropriate disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
 
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience with "face-to-face" customer service
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory motor vehicle record

EMPLOYMENT TESTING:
  • Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing and criminal background investigations.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Six (6) months experience and/or training working with animals in: an animal hospital, shelter, or related animal facility
  • Knowledge of procedures used in the humane care, feeding, handling and restraint of animals
  • Knowledge of sanitation techniques and skill in the use of cleaning equipment

IRREGULAR HOURS:  
  • Flexibility of hours and workdays; to include working weekends and holidays
  • Non-Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations; unless employees are designated by Department Heads
