The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for investigating crimes committed by Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) employees, crimes and delinquent conduct committed at a TJJD state-operated facility or contracted facility, and crimes involving TJJD interests; detection, interception, and investigation of contraband within secure and non-secure TJJD-operated and contracted facilities; locating and apprehending TJJD youth who have escaped, absconded, or violated a condition of their release from TJJD; operating a 24-hour Incident Reporting Center (IRC) to receive and document allegations of criminal activity involving TJJD interests and reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of TJJD youth; preparing and submitting reports regarding criminal investigations and OIG operations to the TJJD board, members of the legislature, and other state agencies; and monitoring compliance with the TJJD Use of Force Plan.
Performs highly complex (senior-level) security enforcement work. Work involves overseeing, monitoring, and/or patrolling grounds outside secure facility area; checking employees and visitors in and out of the facility; inspecting and safeguarding buildings, properties, and equipment; maintaining facility security and traffic control; and checking for contraband. Investigates all criminal offenses detected during those security duties, including offenses committed by staff, contractors, visitors, and volunteers.
Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and be on-call.
This position is subject to a written exercise and a physical fitness assessment.
Identifies, reports, confronts, and/or apprehends/detains persons/arrests suspects in cases of unauthorized entry into buildings and work areas, malicious mischief, escape or other criminal violations.
Controls entrance to the gatehouse and all secured buildings on the facility by confirming authorized admittance or departure before unlocking doors.
Monitors and/or patrols buildings and grounds outside secure facility area; watches for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences; and reports emergencies upon discovery.
Investigates all criminal activity detected at the gatehouse and exterior properties surrounding the secure area of the facility.
Documents the facts and circumstances of investigations of suspected criminal activity in accordance to OIG standard operating procedures.
Documents and coordinates maintenance of seized contraband in compliance with agency policies; contacts local law enforcement as necessary.
Testifies in criminal proceedings, hearings, or trials as needed.
Monitors cameras and records incidents throughout campus.
Monitors front and rear sallyport gates controlling vehicle entry and exit traffic, including deliveries and contractor traffic.
Monitors all vehicle traffic on the facility.
Makes emergencies notifications as needed and initiates all emergency calls as required.
Greets visitors and maintains records/logs of all persons/vehicles entering and exiting the facility.
Monitors all radio transmissions.
Issues and collects keys, maintains key control of entrance, and checks by telephone to determine if admission/departure is permitted.
Collaborates with facility staff in meeting established objectives and goals; shares information, identifies concerns and trends; and recommends improvements to resolve problems or enhance operations.
Monitors outcomes for racial, ethnic and gender disparities and takes action to address identified disparities.
Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:
- Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.
- Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames.
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.
HighSchool diploma or equivalent. One yearof full-time wage earning experience that may be any combination of the following: investigative or law enforcement work; canineofficer or canine handler; military police; or experience as a correctionalofficer.
Must hold an activeTexas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer license and beeligible for appointment as set forth in the Texas Administrative Code, Title37, Part 7, Chapter 217.
Musthave a valid driver license.

This position is subject to mandatorypre-employment drug testing and any offer of employment is contingent uponacceptable results from a drug screen conducted for the agency.
Requirements for continued employment:

Maintain a valid TCOLE peace officerlicense.
Failure to maintainrequired licenses will result in termination of employment.
