  • Job Summary:

    The Paralegal is responsible for working with the lawyers in the Southwest Key Legal department on lawsuits, administrative litigation and investigations (EEOC, DOL, NLRB, OSHA state agencies, etc.), preparing, examining, analyzing, negotiating, and revising contracts on behalf of Southwest Key and its affiliated entities, overseeing special projects, overseeing matter and file management, preparing and following up on legal holds, assisting in responding to discovery, document requests, and subpoenas, investigating facts, preparing legal documents, conducting research to support compliance efforts, investigations, and legal proceedings, and helping process legal bills, vendor bills, settlement checks, and other payments.

    Essential Functions:

    • Prepare affidavits or other documents, such as legal correspondence, and organize and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing system.
    • Prepare legal documents, including positions statements, briefs, pleadings, appeals and contracts. May also include EEOC, DOL, NLRB, OSHA or other regulatory responses or communications.
    • Investigate facts and law, and search pertinent sources, such as internal company records, public records, and internet sources.
    • Prepare for legal proceedings or investigations by performing tasks such as organizing internal or external discovery or draft responses to requests for information.
    • Meet with internal clients or outside professionals to discuss details of matters.
    • File pleadings or other documents.
    • Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes and documents.
    • Direct and coordinate responses to subpoenas, records requests, and discovery.
    • Create and monitor calendar for upcoming court filings, deadlines, etc.
    • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work while meeting required deadlines.
    • Update and maintain databases, files, notebooks, logs in compliance with pre-existing storage systems and procedures.
    • Assist the lawyer(s) in the courtroom and/or mediations, arbitrations or other legal meetings.
    • Oversee the preparation, review and revision of contracts that involve the purchase or sale of goods and services.
    • Negotiate terms and conditions and facilitate contract changes.
    • Coordinate with internal departments and outside contractors; track authorizations and correspondence.
    • Maintain detailed, accurate and organized files in accordance with the company’s retention policies.
    • Prepare and disseminate information regarding contract and case statuses.
    • Provide administrative, legal support to Southwest Key’s attorneys. Such support shall include drafting and revising legal documents, assisting with litigation and administrative claims, and conducting factual and legal research.
    • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work while meeting required deadlines.
    • Oversee special projects to completion as assigned by the General Counsel.

    Other Functions:

    • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 3 years of experience in a Paralegal role.
    • Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills, and able to work under pressure.
    • Self-starter, detail-oriented, excellent follow-up and organization skills, report writing and presentation skills.
    • Experience with litigation, labor/employment/HR legal matters and cases, legal research, and responding to discovery preferred.
    • Experience with negotiating and/or drafting contracts preferred.
    • Ability to speak Spanish preferred

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.

    Work Environment:

    General office environment with moderate noise. Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods of time. Occasional travel may be required. Must be able to adjust schedule to work to deadlines and help cover legal department workload.
