Position Summary

The Software Asset Management Analyst Role will be involved in the enterprise software acquisition, compliance, maintenance, renewals and audits to ensure proper life cycle planning and costing. This is to include software for Physical/Virtual Servers and End User Devices in a large global organization.The ideal candidate for this role will be a motivated, self-starter and will have the ability to implement continuous improvement in this area. 
Software asset management (SAM) is the focal point for data analysis to support the effective management of organizational software assets, whether owned and managed by IT, third-party service providers or business units outside of IT.
This role reports directly to the IT Manager, Business Operations and will have strong relationships with others while executing on strategies, planning, audits, financial analysis and contract negotiations. This will include IT Managers, IT Finance, Strategic Sourcing Organization and Business Unit Managers.

  • Design, develop and generate SAM reports to communicate and monitor compliance, liability and budgetary data
  • Capability to work internally with IT, Business Units and External software vendors to successfully execute on audit requirements.
  • Develop new and maintain existing processes for proactive exception management of license compliance concerns and present remediation options
  • Proactively initiate, conduct and manage internal software audits to ensure audit readiness
  • Manage and support the software renewal process to ensure quantity and deployments are in line with contractual commitments.
  • Initiate processes to proactively understand business needs that lead to the increase/decrease in license consumption and develop a communication plan to clearly understand financial impact. 
  • Identify areas for cost savings through the identification of underutilized software, alternative support options, rationalization, license recycling and optimal licensing practices and recommendations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through email, individual interviews, group meetings and develop presentations to technical staff, end users, management and vendors.
  • Providing licensing consultancy and advice to the project management office, enterprise architecture and various IT support teams
  • Monitoring changes to license terms and conditions (T&Cs), alerting stakeholders to licensing changes that are relevant to them and arranging licensing briefings as appropriate

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years related experience.
  •  Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems or related field 
  • 2+ years of experience in Software Asset Management
  • Experience in working in an Enterprise IT infrastructure environment
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Software licensing models and capabilities as they pertain to Servers, Storage and End User environments
  • Highly organized with acute attention to detail
  • Excellent stakeholder management, meeting facilitation skills and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, data-gathering and problem-solving skills with the ability to carry out data visualization and create high-quality documentation and specifications
  • Certified by a recognized national or international IT or IT asset management professional association, 5 years of experience in SAM
  • Finance or software auditing experience is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate and collaborate with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems or related field
  • Knowledge of IT management and quality management is desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple teams, partner with management to resolve conflicts & obtain resources for projects.
  • Understanding of the various software development lifecycles (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
  • Understanding of licensing requirements for the Microsoft Enterprise Product Suites, such as Windows Server, O365, SQL Server, MSDN, Dynamics CRM, PowerBI, Visio, Project, Sharepoint, Etc
  • Ability to initiate and execute on Microsoft Enterprise License Agreements and annual True ups
  • Awareness of Azure subscription elements and expense models
  • Insight of other enterprise type software solutions such as SAP, VMWare, Adobe, Symantec
  • Knowledge of SAM tools such as SCCM, CAITAM, Intune or ServiceNow
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required
