 Principal Engineer - Verification

The Automotive Information System (AIS) group in Austin, Texas develops connectivity products tailored to the automotive market. AIS is actively designing products for emerging automotive network technologies. The broad portfolio of Microchip products such as MOST transceivers, high-performance microcontrollers, USB transceivers/hubs, CAN transceivers, Ethernet transceivers, wireless audio products, touch sensors, and various analog sensors allow Microchip to be a major supplier of components for high-bandwidth automotive infotainment, information, and control systems and applications.

Microchip is seeking an Electrical/Computer Engineer to work with the IC Verification team in Austin, TX. We are looking for a self-driven candidate with excellent communication skills who can work well with teams across geographies to lead the pre-silicon verification efforts of our products.

The Automotive infotainment business unit within Microchip designs Physical Layer, PHY+MAC, PHY IPs, Multi-Gigabit and MOST based automotive grade chips that enable the leading carmakers to bring ethernet and MOST based audio and control networking to future generations of cars while working on brand new technologies.

As a member of the core Automotive Infotainment Systems development team, a successful applicant will be involved in the verification of latest ethernet technologies (specifically ethernet 10Mbps speed grade).

Responsibilities:

  • Leading ASIC/SoC Verification at sub system/block and full chip level
  • Testbench development in SV/UVM with strong knowledge in UVM
  • Expertise in all aspects of testbench development. This includes architecting, test plan development, scheduling milestones, functional simulation (RTL & Gate), test debug, write assertions and functional coverage
  • Review of micro architecture specifications and providing proactive feedback to Design & Architecture teams to clarify and improve the focus of features that need to be tested
  • Capable of debugging EDA tools, Verification IPs or design related issues with EDA companies
  • Developing tests to exercise and validate various areas/functionality of a chip (memory, routing fabric, timers, etc.) for chip bring-up, functional verification, and debugging
  • Creating verification documentation such as test plans, test reports, how-to guides, and best practices
  • Bring ideas for continuous improvement of process within the verification team
  • Develop scripts for automation as necessary

Qualifications:

  • MS degree in EE/CS/CE with 10+ years of industry experience or B.S degree in EE/CS/CE with 12+ years of industry in ASIC/SoC verification
  • Solid knowledge and experience of Test Bench development using System Verilog and UVM
  • Hands on experience using Object Oriented Programming (OOP) techniques, random test generation, assertion-based verification and functional coverage
  • In-depth knowledge of Ethernet protocols
  • Proficiently with C, PERL, Tcl, Make and UNIX
  • Knowledge of USB 2.0/3.0 and PCIE 2.0 is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be well organized, excellent team player and work well with cross functional teams across geographies
  • Experience with industry standard simulation (e.g. Questa, Visualizer), debugging and formal verification tools.
  • Ability to think out-of-the-box and create unique solutions to problems
  • Ability to multitask and work on a diverse set of problems simultaneously while being on a steep learning curve.
  • Must be able to work and plan independently to achieve targeted goals
  • Ability to problem-solve and collaborate with employees

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of VHDL is a plus
  • Experience with any pre-silicon FPGA emulation is a plus
  • Experience with continuous integration methodology for RTL & Verification code revision control automation is a plus
