Job Description
IBM Research is looking to hire a Design Researcher into the Emerging Technology Experiences team. The mission of this team is to quickly prototype, build and test new technologies, bringing them out of the lab and into the world. This team is comprised of extraordinary developers and designers, who work closely with members of the scientific research community.
As a Design Researcher, you will help provide actionable and meaningful data-driven insights that represent the voice of multiple users. You will collaborate across development, design, and marketing teams to evaluative current and upcoming user research needs that help to improve product definition and drive business goals.
An optimal candidate should be a passionate, curious and a self-driven team player who has a strong collaboration ethic while working with a global multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for a design researcher who is experienced working in a fast paced environment while applying both generative and evaluative research methods to build understanding and empathy for our users. Candidate will be responsible for adhering to the Design Thinking process, crafting personas, assembling detailed user stories and scenarios, influencing design strategy, conducting stakeholder and sponsor user interviews.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• Develop a well-crafted research plan with clear research objectives.
• Write a usability research screener and discussion guides.
• Moderate one-on-one basic usability sessions.
• Help develop a quantitative survey with oversight from a higher banded Design Researcher.
• Conduct stakeholder and client interviews.
• Extract insights about user behaviors from web instrumentation tools.
• Translate user insights into actionable recommendations for the design and development teams.
• Deliver an easy-to-follow, well-crafted usability research playback, report, and presentation that documents the background, objectives, method, key summary, findings and implications for the product.
• Present design research findings to the larger team with a clear and organized fashion.
• Quickly adapt to new projects as each previous project wraps up.
• Ability to manage multiple tracks of work

United States

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
• Experience working within an enterprise institution.
• Background in AI, quantum or other emerging technologies.
• 4 to 6 years of hands-on experience
