The Emergency Department Technician II assists theprofessional nursing staff, emergency room physicians, and private specialtyphysicians with patient care and special emergency room procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Works autonomously, sets priorities and makesindependent decisions of a complex nature. Performs duties, and follows directionas given by physicians and registered nurses. Interfaces with physicians,patients, patient families, staff and ancillary/support departmentrepresentatives. Written and verbal communication skills adequate forperformance and training. Maintains knowledge and skills necessary to operateemergency equipment and perform ED technician functions. Coordinates answeringof telephones and operating the computer Has access to and maintainsconfidentiality of patient information and medical records Must be able todemonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's “Patients First” safetyinitiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture,disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patientpopulations under their care as defined in the units of care provisionstatements. Uses interventionsappropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, socialservice consult, etc.) May be required to work undesirable shifts: nights,weekends and holidays. Expected to abide by all policies and procedures andinquire when needed for clarification.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Emergency Medical Technician Certification Certification as Nurse's Aid
EXPERIENCE: Required: One-year experience in critical care, emergency department area, acute setting, or nursing home.
Required: Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support certification with specialization for healthcare providers.
Preferred: Current Emergency Medical Technician certification
Current Advanced Life Support certification
