  •   Primary Purpose: Assist with daily operation of transportation office and provide clerical assistance to director of transportation. Know Routing program Transfinder, Tyler Tech.

    Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location.

    Qualifications: Education/Certification:
    High school diploma or GED
    Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)

    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
    Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
    Basic math skills
    Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing
    Must be 18 years of age
    Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
    Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
    Ability to communicate effectively
    Knowledge of student discipline procedure
    Ability to manage student behavior
    Ability to operate bus

    Experience:
    One year clerical experience in office setting.

    Major Responsibilities and Duties: Records, Reports, and Correspondence Maintain log of district vehicles maintenance, including oil and transmission changes.
    Prepare correspondence, memorandums, forms, requisitions, and reports for transportation office using personal computer.
    Compile pertinent data to prepare various required state and local reports.
    Maintain physical and computerized departmental files on transportation issues, including bus incident reports and trip forms.
    Routing of the buses.

    Data Entry
    Input daily gas use for all district vehicles.
    Input all drivers’ monthly student count and ensure all students are on the appropriate bus.
    Input all work orders for district vehicles and department equipment.
    Enter all supply and equipment purchase information in computer.

    Accounting Invoice for mechanical work per partnership.
    Order supplies for department.

    Vehicle Operation Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
    Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
    Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
    Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports.
    Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.

    Student Management Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
    Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus.
    Maintain discipline; report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator.
    Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.

    Safety Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
    Inspect bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving.
    Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.
    Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisory of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
    Install snow chains during inclement weather.
    Report any hazardous conditions along the route.

    Other Answer incoming calls, take messages, and route them to appropriate staff.
    Welcome all visitors and handle their requests or refer them to appropriate personnel.
    Maintain effective rapport with general public and handle any problems or concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
    Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office.
    Work irregular hours as needed.
    Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification.
    Record bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

    Equipment Used: Personal computer, facsimile machine, printer, copier, and calculator. School bus, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher.

    Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
    Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes.
