    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    This position requires ten (10) to twelve (12) years of school or equivalent, with three (3) to five (5) years of related experience, plus knowledge of a specialized field such as Locksmith. Incumbent must have a valid Texas Driver’s License in possession at all times while operating Austin ISD vehicles.

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position requires incumbent to have a thorough knowledge of locksmith techniques and use of all tools of the trade. Incumbent should have knowledge of lubricants and metals used on different types of hardware. Incumbent must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

    JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

    This position maintains building hardware in good working order and keeps locks workable so that buildings will be secure.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Makes keys, rekeys cylinders, and removes broken keys or objects from cylinders.
    • Repairs or replaces door closers, locks, knobs, keepers, panic devices, and door butts.
    • Installs door closers, adjusts door handles, and lubricates hardware.
    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

    Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work is performed in a crowded and congested area with considerable interfering noise levels. Hazards for this position are minimal, except for the normal hazards associated with driving. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.

    PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

    This position reports directly to the Section Foreman or Supervisor for Building and Grounds, and ultimately Assistant Director of Maintenance. Incumbent may directly supervise a Maintenance Apprentice in this craft. Incumbent will not provide guidance or consultation outside of Maintenance and Operations staff.

    COMPENSATION:
    Duty Days: 260
    Pay Grade: MT08
    Starting Salary: $15.73/Hr
