- Install repair and maintain specialty wiring and life safety systems in schools and other Austin ISD facilities..
- Keep records of installation and maintenance performed on life safety equipment.
- Perform regular periodic inspections of life safety equipment in schools and other Austin ISD facilities.
- Supervise and train new employees.
- Coordinate the installation, programming, and communication of new equipment and software with existing central station hardware.
- Serve as campus liaison between Life Safety Systems, various Austin ISD staff and departments as well as outside vendors and contractors.
- Provide and or assist in training Austin ISD staff in the use of life safety system equipment.
- Assist Austin ISDS Police Department and other personnel with technical problems.
- Perform inspections of new construction and renovations by contractors to ensure compliance with Austin ISD specifications.
This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Incumbent must have five (5) plus years of related experience in life safety systems, electrical, electronic, or network installation or maintenance. Incumbent may substitute some years of experience with current NICET Fire or Video certification.
Incumbent must have demonstrated knowledge of alarm and control systems to include fire alarm, intrusion alarm, access control systems and video surveillance systems. This position requires a working knowledge of applicable electrical, fire, and life safety codes that govern installation of life safety systems. Incumbent must have previously demonstrated skills to analyze and effectively troubleshoot and repair complex electrical and electronic file safety systems in the field. This position requires the ability to use power and hand tools and have a demonstrated history of working safely. Daily contact with school administrators is necessary, so the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing is required. Incumbent should be familiar with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2012 Operating Systems, networked storage devices, the setting up of printers and other hardware. This position requires the ability to address devices, and be familiar with TCP/IP protocols and diagnostics to include Telnet, ARP, PING and other functions. Incumbent must be familiar with structured wiring techniques and methods. This position requires the ability to read, write, and converse fluently in English. Incumbent must be able to manage and implement projects of varying size, scope, and complexity. This position will work with architects, contractors, and integrators to specify, provide guidance, and install life safety systems in schools and other Austin ISD buildings. Incumbent must have demonstrated ability to focus on solutions and effectively utilize on-line and other available resources.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent installs, maintains, and repairs complex electronic equipment, systems and specialty wiring at all Austin ISD facilities. Incumbent must have a current Texas Operators Driver’s License in possession at all times while operating Austin ISD vehicles.
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in the alarm maintenance shop and from vehicle with considerable interfering noise levels. On call twenty-four (24) hours a day for one week at a time in a rotating shift, and year round for emergency Life Safety Systems equipment repairs. Work is performed three hundred sixty-five (365) days a year both in indoors and outdoors facilities. Conditions include: cold, heat, darkness, dampness, dirt and dust. Hazards include: electrical shocks or burns, cuts, crushed fingers, falls from ladders, small dark enclosures above ceilings and beneath buildings. A large part of work is done from ladders; considerable driving is required in all weather conditions. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent reports directly to the Life Safety Systems Foreman. Incumbent will have frequent contact with Alarm Technicians, and other Austin ISD staff. Incumbent may supervise alarm maintenance crews on job site. This position is the highest level on the career path for the Alarm Technician.

Starting Salary: $19.05/Hr
