History In 1985, the developers of Barton Creek Resort & Spa looked upon the raw land with a modern-day vision of a world-class residential development comprised of million dollar estates, a private country club, resort, a European-style spa and fitness center. Every detail of the complex would be designed to harmonize with nature and preserve the splendor of the Texas Hill Country. Barton Creek’s renowned Fazio Foothills golf course opened for play in July 1986. The course design has proven to be an embodiment of the natural Hill Country, celebrating waterfalls, hills and caves. It is a unique playing experience for golfers of all levels. The Grand Opening of Barton Creek Resort & Spa was held in September 1987. In October 1989, the property passed another exciting milestone, as ground was broken for a second golf course, designed by Austin native Ben Crenshaw & Bill Coore, and which opened for play in April 1991. In May 1991 we aquired Barton Creek Lakeside which features an 18-hole Arnold Palmer course. In 2000 the addition of 158 guest rooms, a new Tom Fazio designed golf course (Canyons), a new tennis complex, expanded meeting space and restaurant capacity, as well as the addition of a $1.2 million resort swimming pool opened.
